1st Kill!! After a bad shot on a beauty up north. Determined on my way home Monday afternoon, I decided I had to get back out and keep my spirits up. My goal was to be in my climber by 4:30, but an accident on I75 slowed me down and I was bummed that i’m not gonna get in a tree till at least 5:30. Arriving at my location, I tossed on my gear, sprayed down and dragged some frozen deer estrus behind me on my boot. Clinging and clanking to my stand, sweating to the brim, I thought to myself, “What’s the point”, My mother probably heard me 2 counties over. After struggling to get up in my climber, sun falling, I hit a split in the trunk I didn’t notice on my tree 10ft up.. ughh, at this point I was just happy to be up in a tree again and accepted the spirit of the woods for the blessing. I used my call and let out a few grunts, and waited patiently. 20 minutes later another soft grunt and BOOM!! right out of the brush there he was and halted from behind to my right!! Staring around glancing in the tree wondering. I sat their, still, bow clipped in my right hand, only hearing the sound of my beating chest fearing he wouldn’t. Then out of nowhere a car drove down the road sparking his interest. I drew, he turned back quarter away looking at me again in full draw.. Legs shaking, arms burning trying not to move but only in my boots, our eyes locked on each other. Seconds felt like hours, praying to the spirit “Please look away!!”, I was holding that draw for a good 3 minutes but felt like hours almost to the verge of puking. Sun was almost set and then his head dropped to forage. 15 yds from the tree, I laid my pin on his back below the shoulder blade, taking my mentors advice aiming for exit. I released.. The luminock flashed and with a jump the buck scattered 20 yds in front of me and stopped, looked back walking 30 more yards to my truck and dropped..
