I arrived to the spot mid day, had a few shooters coming to the field in the evenings. It was the first day of the youth hunt and I’m 16 so it’s my last year I can hunt the youth hunt. The night started off good. I had over a dozen deer in front of me, ranging from spikes, to 10 pointers. The shooter were all at 450 yards and I’m not confident with that shot. I watched those 3 shooters across the field for an hour or so till they walked off the field. I decided to move down the field more to try and cut the distance if they came back out. I sat for another half hour before this buck popped out at 80 yards. I was debating on shooting him and then he started to walk over the hill at 125 yards, I quickly decided I was going to take the shot. I put the gun on fire and held on his vitals, I squeezed the trigger and the deer never dropped I was so confused it was still standing I shot again instantly. That shot did the trick. I spined him and he dropped. I am shooting a semi auto 30-06, I went to the range a few days after and realized the scope was bumped. It was shooting over 9 inches high, which explains why the first shot missed. I sight in my gun every couple of months because I use it for crop damage. I must have hit it on a tree or something.
