COLD! Hunted the night before, snow was too deep to go to the stand I wanted. Sawlots of deer but no shots. Went out the next night and decided on a ground hunt where I had seen all the deer the night before (I’ve never sat the ground, it was a whim). Had 40-50 deer coming for both directions but all were small bucks or does, I figured if I was going to brave the temps, I was going to make it worth my while. In came this guy chasing a doe. 40 yard shot, he dropped 100 yards away in the middle of the field.

I’ve had this one on my trail camera in September only to disappear until two days prior to harvesting him. He started showing up in daylight so I told my boss I was going home at noon on 12/8. At 5:15 or so he showed up. A 40 yard shot and 70 yards later he was down.

I didn’t even make it to my stand before I seen this deer standing in the field at a distance I waited next to a fence post to see if it would come closer and sure enough he did, and when I got a clean shot I pulled the trigger 100 yards in the shoulder. he dropped in his tracks I wasn’t in the woods a total of 15 mins awesome hunt .

Hasn’t seen this buck since last Sunday, and finally he slipped up came running in to about 70 yards, and stepped out from a group of 3 trees. Fired 1 shot with my Henry. 44 Mag. This is the first buck I have taken with the gun and looking forward to many more in the future.
