He showed up on camera December 1. That was the first time I had seen him all season. Checked camera daily to try and figure out where he was coming from and of course it was all in the middle of the night. It was a Thursday and the first snow, I was hoping that would get him get him up earlier than usual and it did. Showed up 10 minutes before last light.

I sat in my stand all day and didn’t see anything so during the last couple minutes of shooting light I decided to go sit on the pic nic table next to the field. He came from behind me out of the swamp about 10 feet way! We starred at eachother for about 1 minute then I stood up and dropped him on the run. I couldn’t be any happier to tag this buck on the last day of season!

After a very slow October, I had my first opportunity to gun hunt the day after the monsoon that hit West Mi on opening day. After only seeing a doe and a fawn early in the morning, I decided I was going to sit until 11:30 before taking a short break. Just before 11 am, I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and saw a spike running along the back of the neighbors’ woods near the cornfield. Shortly after, I saw a big buck emerge from the corn chasing him! I thought he was pretty large when I saw him running from the side, and had a big body, but it wasn’t until the spike ran towards me and he followed that I realized how wide he really was. I watched them for nearly 5 min running up and down the hills, in and out of the corn… all while 100-200 yards away on the neighbor’ property. I’d never seen a buck that big in my life and my adrenalin level was through the roof but thankfully it was windy, they were up-wind of me and very preoccupied with each other, enough to ignore all of my attempted calls and heart beating out of my chest. Finally, they disappeared into the neighbors’ corn and my heart hit the floor. I thought I had lost my chance at taking a monster. However, It wasn’t two minutes later the spike popped back out on my side of the property and 10 steps behind him was this beast. I made my shot at 90 yards with my CVA Bushmaster 450 and couldn’t be happier with the outcome! The shot ended up being a little forward and low but still did the trick. So blessed for the opportunity to harvest a monster like this guy! 22 3/4″ inside spread 3 1/2 year old.

So the story of a legend has come to an end. 11/22/17 I dropped the hammer on a buck we called Kicker. This is a buck I chased for 3 solid years. Thx again to Eric Perez and Brian Hatt for helping me out.

Andrew took his first buck on his great-grandpa’s property Thursday evening. This is Andrew’s 5th deer with his mom’s old .243 and he finally has something to hang his hat on. His grandpa Craig was by his side and we are all so proud of him!
