It was a cold morning and I got to my stand a little later than I wanted to. Within a few short minutes I had a small buck cruise through, but I was looking for something bigger. Around 9am I spotted the buck. The sun was glistening off of his antlers and that’s what caught my eye. At this point the buck was behind me and through a bunch of brush…..I watched him for what seemed like forever, being sure to move only when he went behind cover. I had been so focused on the buck that I hadn’t noticed the doe that he was chasing. Well that doe certainly noticed me. As she stared up at me,I was positive that I was busted. I didn’t move a muscle for what seemed like forever, when the buck made a run at the doe. Suddenly the doe was less concerned with me and just trotted away and headed deeper into the woods. Realizing that the buck would surely follow, I knew it was now or never. I waited until I had the smallest of openings and fired. I was sure I missed, and I was sick. About a minute passed and I looked up and saw movement. Putting my scope up, I realized it was the buck! He was just stunned and standing there. I had a second chance, and I was surely going to make the most of it. This time he ran about 10 yards, did a twirl and went down. When I got down to see him, I was super excited at how big he truly was! I also hadn’t noticed the drop tine on his left antler. It was the hunt of a lifetime, and this is the buck of a lifetime for me!

What a great feeling to feel again! Took this beautiful heavy horned Macomb County ten point on ground that I’ve been hunting for nearly 30 years right in my mom and dads neighborhood. Great memories of the past and great memories still to come!

This warrior had 6 inches of arrow in his collapsed left lung. He was hurting to say the least. Walking directly at me and at 20 yards knew he saw something that didn’t belong along side that tree. His body will nourish me and his genes will be passed along for future hunts!
