My mom (she’s in her 60’s) and I had decided that despite the strong winds we were going to give it a try and go out hunting (this is a tradition for us and every year mom seems to get the big guy. lol..). Mom hunts about 70 acres to north in a long standing shack and I had chose to hunt in my bow stand instead of the wind shaken pop up blind. Just 5 minutes or so before dark, he stepped out from the trees only 20 yards or so in front of me. After looking briefly for blood with no success, I had met back up with my mom and we had waited about 30 minutes just in case. After only 10 minutes of looking with the flash lights we had found him, only 100 yards or so away on top of a hill just standing there looking at me, stuck in a tree. I hesitated as I couldn’t tell if he was still alive or not, turned out not. He ran himself right into the tree and became wedged. Unbelievable so we took many pictures. A nice 8 point.

Have had visual sightings and an occasional cam pic of this guy for the past three months and he managed to slip past me just over a ridge on the rifle opening morning. Saw lots of deer the next three days, just no shooters. The property got a little break and the wind was calm on Thanksgiving morning, I hunted a field edge blind given the wind direction, not expecting much to come out of hiding with all the pressure. He came out 40 yards to my south, he never stopped moving, but eventually me a side shot at a slow enough pace to squeeze the trigger.

It was 10:45 in the morning and i wanted to go because I had been sitting there for 4 and half hours .So I was ready to get up and leave but then as I was about to tell my dad that I wanted to leave a buck walked in and he was big . He was walking around and he stopped to eat and I took my time to shoot him and he was just eating and then I took a deep breath of the cold air one last time and at the bottom of the breath I pulled the trigger very slowly When the arrow had hit him he had sprang like bunny . This was my first ever deer and I couldn’t have been happier with my 8 point for my first ever deer .
