My dad and I didnt hunt the morning because of high winds. We got to our stands around 1130am and both of us saw bucks all day. At around 515 I had a decent 6 point run by me and cross a creek after scent checking my area. Shortly after I heard another cross the creek and stood up knowing there was a (different, larger) 4.5year old buck in the area chasing does I had a close encounter with the previous day, but no shot opportunity. He broke the cedar transition I hunt along and grabbed my bow after seeing it was a mature buck. Anticipating he would walk in my scrape area in front of me, he turned to my weak side so I turned towards him and drew back. As he turned slightly quartering to me I stopped him in my last open lane, at the same time he turned towards me which presented a hard quartering too shot. I snuck my arrow right behind his right shoulder, almost exiting through his opposite left leg. After hearing him crash through the thick creek bottom, back across, and through the thickets on the other side of the creek I second guessed my shot. We picked up on good blood, and decided to let him lay for the night. We made a good recovery 75yds from the hit the next morning and I blew out his shoulder, one lung, and everything between to his opposite rear leg. Let em go, let em grow and it will pay off.

This guy came in cruising a scrape line with a younger buck. He blasted open another scrape, hit my scent drag line and followed it down my runway. A 12 yard chip shot with my Mathews and Carbon Express tipped with Rage. A beautiful November morning!

He came out of the swamp and into the field at 47 yards, and finally stopped broadside at 54 yards when I took the shot. The Gold Tip arrow with 2″ Swhacker cut right through the shoulder blade and lapped off a couple inches of his heart. He ran 50 yards back into the swamp and crashed.

I was sitting in my blind and he went around the opening in the pines to the south. I couldn’t get a shot. So i snuck out of my blind, the wind blowing about 20 mile an hour in my face. I step out into the fire lane in the pine trees, and he step out at the same time. I was on the Independence hunt because i am a disabled veteran.

Ashlyn was sitting with mom when just as we were getting ready to pack up she seen her buck. He went through fast, but showed himself again just long enough for her to take the shot . He dropped about 100 yards away. This is Ashlyns first buck and it’s an 8point! Ashlyns brother Gage shot a 8 point just a few mins later. Great morning for them both!
