Dad and I have sat together on opening day since I was 12 years old. We drove back to our blind & got right in the blind to get situated while my dad was down below in the barn setting up the decoy. (His plan was to walk across the field to his blind)
I watched a bunch of does and this buck come out of the woods, his white face just shimmered across the field. Dad came up the ladder to check out the field and I told him this buck was out here. The buck ran right to us and my dad told me “he’s old shoot him” I got my gun up, my dad grunted and got him stopped for me. I pulled the trigger, he ran about 50 yards and dropped.
It was quick, he was dead at 7:21am.
Most definitely the oldest buck I’ve ever shot, he didn’t have a bottom tooth left.
I will be forever grateful for these memories with my dad that I will be able to hang on to forever. He truly is the best hunting partner.
