The first snow of the year made me feel like it could finally be the perfect morning for a nice buck to give me a chance with my bow. Last year was my first season hunting with a compound bow, so I’ve been waiting for a little over a year for the right opportunity. The morning started off busy, but slowed down once the snow picked up. Around 9:00, this buck came in about 40 yards away, scraping and rubbing, putting on quite a show. He circled around my tree, almost giving me a 10-yard shot, but caught my scent and was positioned behind some shrubs before stepping into the trail opening. At 25 yards, quartering away, I drew back and made a clean double-lung shot. He only ran about 80 yards before going down. I’m feeling incredibly blessed to have harvested this buck, my first with a compound bow.
