7 YEAR OLD BOWDON COLE WITH HIS FIRST BUCK! 🦌🏹
Bowdon has been practicing with his crossbow all summer, and this past week he made sure he was dialed in and ready for deer season! His goal for the weekend was try and harvest his first buck. Saturday morning, Bowdon and his grandpa, Brian made the two hour drive up to the property. That evening, they climbed into an elevated Banks blind overlooking a beautiful green food plot. It didn’t take long before the deer started moving. A few does entered the plot and began feeding while Bowdon and Grandpa patiently waited. Then Bowdon looked out the left window and spotted a buck walking toward the food plot. He quietly let Grandpa know in case it was a deer they wanted to harvest. The buck stepped into the plot at only 10 yards but Bowdon stayed calm and waited patiently for Grandpa to give him the okay.
As the buck moved away from the blind, Bowdon calmly told Grandpa when the deer was turned so they could quietly open the window and get ready. Bowdon settled into shooting position as the buck worked its way out to 22 yards quartering to them. For what probably felt like forever to a 7 year-old, Bowdon waited another 5 long minutes without rushing anything. Grandpa talked him through the process while they waited for the buck to turn. Finally, the buck turned completely broadside and Grandpa told him, if he wanted him go ahead take the shot. Bowdon squeezed the trigger the bolt flew, connected, and the buck dropped on impact. It got back to its feet, made it roughly 10 more yards, and within seconds fell for the final time.
Bowdon had just harvested his first buck! A memory Bowdon and Grandpa Brian will carry with them forever!
