I can’t make this up. Almost the exact same scenario as my big buck last year, just on the other side of the field!
At 4:30, a hot doe came out of the swamp followed by several bucks. After watching them work their way into the field, I climbed out of my stand an snuck the 60ish yards to the cornfield. They had made it to the other side of the field by the time I got there. There were three dolls that came from the other direction and she eventually turned and headed back toward me with the big boy right behind her. I kept ranging them every few steps First at 80, then 70, 60 finally, at 45 yards, I got my opportunity.
The shot looked a little back, so I backed out and spent a couple hours at home with my wife and daughter before heading back with a buddy. Four minutes into tracking, we had him!
He made it about 150 yards before expiring in his first bed in the middle of the swamp. Unfortunately, the coyotes found him before we did, but they didn’t do much damage.
My first-ever 10-point! What an incredible night in the woods!
