This buck was a regular on camera in late summer and early fall. He followed his previous year’s pattern moving 3/4 of a mile into a thick swamp behind my in-laws house.
The morning brought heavy rain, warm, and windy but planned on making a set when the rain let up. After seeing him from his house, my father in-law and I set up on both sides of the swamp at 11 a.m. with the wind in our favor. 45 minutes in and here he comes down the trail leading to a clear 30 yard shot. 2 steps before the lane he cuts west back into the swamp. I hit a couple grunts to try and gain his interest but no luck.
The rain picks back up for the next few hours and action slows. 2:30 pm and here he comes from opposite direction attempting to work downwind. He makes it to 32 yards with a small window to shoot through. Let it fly and he crashes within 40 yards.
Unbelievably blessed for these opportunities with the people I love!
