Ava Larson

We left our the house at 4:30 a.m. and drove to our friends farm. Ava, my 13 year old daughter, was so excited, I’m not sure she slept a wink the night before. She talked my ear off the whole way up to the farm. She told everyone at school that she was going to shoot a buck. I attempting to bring her back to reality without bursting her bubble. We climbed in the blind and went through all of our safety instructions and potential scenario’s. About 10 minutes into shooting hours we saw a deer come out of the woods and started to run across the field. She was so excited that I thought she would scare it away. I told her that she needed to make sure it was a buck and that she needed to wait for it to stop before I would give her the green light. I grunted and the buck stopped broadside at about 100 yards. She took a deep breath and squeezed the trigger. The buck did not go 10 feet. She made a perfect heart shot. That’s when the rest of the county found out she had shot her first buck. I’ve never seen a child get so excited. She went from yelling to tears. It will be a moment that I cherish for the rest of my life. She is officially hooked!!!!
