I was in stand around 2 hours before shooting light, knew I would have a long and loud walk into the stand, it was 7° when I left the truck, planned on it being my last sit for the year and had one tag left to fill. Had deer all around me before daylight even broke, there was around 2” of snow on the ground so I could see things well. Around 8am after passing on 12 deer prior to seeing him I could hear one walking but couldn’t see it, turned to my downwind side of the tree and seen him walking directly towards me, waited till he got broadside and shot, he immediately hit the ground, and as soon as the smoke cleared he got back up and didn’t go anywhere and continued to eat around, realizing I missed him I immidiately started to reload the gun, while freezing and shaking from adrenaline I somehow got the muzzleloader completely reloaded and turned around to see him standing at 50 yards broadside, second shot double lunged him and he ran 20’ and dropped, best deer I’ve ever killed on state land.
