Came up to hunt Friday my wife called to tell me our dog was hit and killed by a car. Drove back home for the night to collect the family and our pup. We came back up Saturday to bury him at the property he loved. After doing that I went out to the woods. I had been watching a nice basket 8 about 60 yards behind me. I decided to try grunting at him about 30 minutes before dark.
I’ve never had grunts work before but the more I grunted the more interested he got. He started coming towards me and I turned and set up on the weak side of my saddle to shoot. As I was getting ready to draw I decided to check my 6. I looked behind me and this guy was standing by there staring at the 8. I switched back to my strong side, drew, and he stepped broadside about 20 yards. I let fly and the G5 Deadmeat did its work. He went about 100 and piled up. It’s was a great end to bad day.
