I decided to take my late grandfather’s old Marlin lever action chambered in .35 Remington out. Since muzzleloader in my area is open for rifle this year I figured it to be the perfect opportunity. I had watched 10 does feed through 45-50 yds to the West at around 4:30pm. At 5:25pm I decided to start packing up to try and sneak out to the truck as I hadn’t seen deer for about 45 minutes. As I started closing my blind windows I noticed a big deer at 100yds. When I got the binoculars on him I knew he was a shooter. He came to 80 yds and presented a quartering to shot at last light and I made a perfect shot through the Left shoulder and it exited through the last rib on the right side. He went 10-15 yards and piled up. I didn’t realize he was the buck we had been calling “crab claw” until I walked up to him. I know my grandpa would be proud. A hunt I won’t soon forget!
