Dad and I suited up for opening day. No sooner did we get to the blind and we already had 3 bucks in front of us at 7:27. Only one would put its head up enough to see it, all I could see was tines. He wasn’t broadside, but a doe in heat was running through leaving me no time to wait. I pulled the trigger and watched him kick out, so I knew I hit him just wasn’t sure where.

Since we weren’t sure where I hit him, we chose to give it 3-4 hours to let him bleed out. After seeing minimal movement I was very bored, at around 11 o’clock a doe came out. A buck came walking down the trail after her, and the rest was history. Both made it 40 yards. The first buck I managed to hit in the lungs and heart, the second buck was a lung shot.

My uncle Pat came out and helped us load them up, which was very appreciated and a really big help being I broke my back 3 months ago and can’t lift anything. My mom came out to help track them. Super thankful for my dad for being my mentor, teaching me to hunt, and joining me in the blind. This is one of those hunts I will never forget, experiencing it with my dad, mom, and Pat made it much more special.
