After a slow first few days hunting my uncle’s property, we decided to give his place a break and check out some public land we recently heard about. After scouting we found a nice clearing with thickets leading into some hardwoods on my left, and a cedar swamp on my right. I tucked my blind back in some pines over looking the clearing. Around 430 I saw some movement working around some downfall through the swamp. All I saw were legs walking, so as I was looking out my front window waiting for this deer to make it’s away around the downfall I noticed more movement out of my right window. All I saw was the tips of his antlers as he worked around some smaller pines on the edge of the swamp. The first deer made its way to the clearing and stood on the edge of the swamp. Realizing it was a doe, my focus was on the buck. He stepped out a few seconds later, 10yards closer. He worked his way into the clearing and stood broadside. I was able to get my gun up and out him in my scope. Was debating on if I wanted to take him out not, but as I was looking through the scope he lifted his head and was looking right at me. I thought, “wow, that’s a pretty buck”. I let him drop his head again, and decided to take him. I let my .270 go. He went to turn and run back into the swamp and dropped. He got up again and ran about 15 yards before I heard him crash.
