After bow hunting all season I had many encounters with shooter bucks on this small 20 acre farm behind my parents house. Took a couple days off of work on the 6th and 7th of November and couldn’t quite get the job done. A couple days before gun opener I had my #1 target buck along with several other good bucks showing up mid to late evening. They were showing up at a stand closer to my parents house on the backside of an huge thicket. Knowing this I planned on hunting it after work every day to fill my second buck tag before gun season. With no luck, opening day of gun season arrived and I had to work. Fortunately for me I get out at 3:30pm everyday. As soon as I got out of work I drove to my parents house, showered, got into my hunting gear, grabbed my 20 gauge and headed out. The stand is roughly 80 yards from my house so getting in was quick and easy. I finally Got all set up by 4:20pm and By 4:48pm I heard this buck grunting at a doe behind me. The doe managed to come in front of me as he followed. Had to mouth grunt at him for him to stop.
Once he did I put a heart shot on him at 30 yard shot. Surprisingly he went 60 yards and was done. One of the quickest hunts ever for me. First ever buck with a gun and the first ever buck on opening day of gun season for me as well. All tagged out! 1 with my bow, 1 with my shotgun! It’s been a fun year.
