My son, Brody, 8 yrs old, was hoping to take this buck, he named Curly Q, last year. After he harvested a different buck I had several encounters with him and passed him up hoping he would make it another year. This summer I started getting pics of him, and he was impressive, adding well over 30” from the year before. When Brody saw the trail cam pics he couldn’t believe how big Curly Q got. He said he really wanted to get a chance to shoot him, so I told him he could try during the youth season. Youth season was really hot, and we didn’t have any luck. Opening day of bow season I took Brody out and told him it was my turn to try to get a shot, but still no luck. With our schedules really busy I couldn’t go back out until the 16th, and Brody couldn’t make it home in time to go so I went by myself. After about an hour I had a few does come in, and shortly after, Curly stepped out. He came right in grunting and chasing the does around. He gave me a 22 yd shot and went about 100 yds where we found him. I called Brody right away and he was a little sad he didn’t get him. I really can’t believe that it worked out. I think people should shoot whatever makes them happy, but if you want to shoot a great buck you have to pass the good ones.
