I met my guide Ashton early in the morning. It was the first day of the last session of the early season. We met up with another guide Vance and his client Mel. We heard the bull elk bugle at about 6:15 A.M, 45 minutes before legal shooting time. We got to about 350 yards from the elk around 6:45 but we wanted to get a little closer. We were able to cut the distance to about 220 by going down a hill and quickly moving through a gravel pit. We got set up on our shooting sticks and were able to double up on two cows 4 minutes after legal shooting time.
