Decided to head out early and sit all afternoon. Got to the stand about 1:45 but didn’t see anything until 5:15 when this guy snuck out of the tall thick brush. As soon as he hit the mowed 15 yard wide swath he began trotting. Gave him the trusty Meh, Meeeh as I was lifting the 350 Legend up to get on him. He stopped, looked, and as he took his first step to trot into the tall brush again, I pulled the trigger. He jumped really high in the air and mule kicked. I called my dad and let him know I just shot the biggest buck of my life. We waited until dark and started looking, and looking….and looking. We never could find blood or hair anywhere. We began grid searching and still no sign of a good hit. After an hour of searching in the dark and no blood we decided to back out and look in the morning. We started back at the beginning and worked our way through the thickest stuff in his direction of travel. After 130 yards we found blood. After another 20 yards he laid their dead. Great quartering to shot, just in front of the shoulder, exit just behind the far shoulder. Good thing we backed out last night. Even with good shot placement it was a one lung hit.
