Wasn’t able to hunt opening day because of work so I was happy to get out to the blind. Sat for the morning hunt but didn’t have much luck. Got out for the evening hunt at 4:30, husband glassed a set antlers moving through the brush after he noticed a few birds take off out of some trees across the field. At 5:10 he stepped out at 150 yards, turned broad side and I took the shot. He mule kicked and ran off into a thick bedding area. Called my dad and father-in-law to come help us track. Found good blood for a few hundred yards then jumped him. Backed out for the night. Came back out at first light to track. Tracked for another 300-400 yards. Lost blood where he has done some circling in the thick brush. After 45 minutes we were just about to call in the blood hounds when we found new blood, only to find him 30 yards away piled up in a swamp. Great first deer with an incredible story to go with it.
