I first laid eyes on this buck second week of October from a saddle set up. I then began to learn the area on the hoof days after seeing him. Trying to put together a game plan. 3 days after seeing him from a far I pushed a little to deep into his bedroom one day and kicked him up. I learned his core area having private land to his back and no reason to travel east I came up with a game plan to start hunting him in and out of his travel routes on the right wind to the west. With a crp field to the north of his bedding area open oaks to the south and a high browse count thicket to the west, I knew he would travel the creek edge that ran east and west. I hunted for this buck 5 other hunts and came up empty handed not to even see a single deer. Then mid November I went back in after taking a break on the area noticed a scrape and set a camera. Low and behold he shows up 5 days after setting the camera. I snuck in that night to see if I could capitalize and came up empty handed again. The very next morning I hunted a different spot and he shows up on that scrape the very next day. Two mornings in a row. I told my wife I’m going in after him the very next day. Instead of hunting over the scrape thinking he wouldn’t make that mistake for the third time in a row. I hunted 50 yards away from the scrape in the thicket closer to the creek. At 1030am with nothing insight I was slowly getting discouraged. At 1045am I heard a bleat from behind me to the west and had a doe coming my way at 50 yards. As she worked her self into just about bow range I seen the bucks rack in the brush behind her racking on some brush and knew it was my target buck. He didn’t let her get to far ahead of him as he was pushing her back into his core area. The buck made his way to 32 yards at a quartering to shot. I drew my bow and waited for that broadside shot and he did just that. Arrow smoked him right behind the shoulder and it was all over from there. He did a mule kick neck hit the ground and he pushed his front end as if it was like plowing snow. He ran 80 yards and tipped over 50 yards from one of his main beds. Very blessed to say the least, and very thankful
