After many years of looking at my grandpa’s old recurve, I decided that I wanted to bring it back to life. Back in 2013 I did a little refurbishing to the bow so I could get it ready for October of that Fall. I never got to hunt with my grandpa, but after hearing stories about him from my dad and others at our 68-year public land bow camp, I wanted to shoot something with it. I dedicated a lot of time that spring and summer. Unfortunately, I never even got a shot that Fall. I got busy the next several years and I was only able to usey compound bow and my rifle. Deer were harvested, but I was missing that recurve kill! Finally in 2020, I went 100% traditional. Well, the morning of October 17th was one I will never forget. I was able to shoot this doe at 4.5 yards. She gave me a hard quartering away shot, but she was dead within 100 yards. Walking up to her was a flood of emotions. Something I won’t soon forget. This one’s for you grandpa. May your legacy live on.
