Well, I shot the “state land” buck of a lifetime yesterday. He showed up on my camera mid day the beginning of November. I noticed the tags on his ears, and thought what’re the chances? Saturday I hunted in the wet snow, and he showed up again mid day, just hours after I called it quits. At this point, I was moving into that spot. I loaded up my bag with any gear and snacks I thought I may need, strapped it to my tree climber and hiked in about a 1/2 mile to my spot. Somehwere around 8:30 I was watching a decent 8 harassing some does on the other side of a creek. I grunted, and snort wheezed, watching him charge towards me and stop at the creek, he was 40 yards looking around for the buck, I fooled him. He turned to head back towards the does and another buck came charging in behind me. A nice shooter 8. They squared each other up from opposite sides of the creek, and made rubs and grunted for half an hour. I think I almost started a fight lmao. Those deer wander off and I’m watching a couple does across the creek, I finally decide to sit down and tell the boys about my awesome experience, I was already satisfied with the hunt, that was fun to watch! Just as I sit down I here something cross the creek. I stand up and turn around slowly, staring through the thick brush and I caught a glimpse of white antlers slowly heading my way. I grab my bow and stare into the brush using my tree for cover. He hits a small opening and I catch half of his rack and realize it’s bowinkle, my jaw about hit the ground. I couldn’t believe this may actually happen. He zig zagged through the brush making me wonder what side of the tree he would come out on. He came in to my right quartering towards me, he went behind some brush I drew my bow, he was still quartering to me through the first couple openings so I held my draw and waited. He hit the third and turned broadside at 18 yards. I stopped him and let the arrow fly. There lies bowinkle, the state land buck of a lifetime that escsped a deer farm.
