Friday evening my 7 year old (Colton) and myself were just leaving the house to walk out back of our 10 acres for the evening hunt. We made it about 55yds behind the house when we spotted this guy bedded down, 20 yds away. We set up the tripod, and waited for him to stand up for a clear shot. 1-2 minutes later he stood up, facing us, looking right at us. Colton pulled the trigger on his AR based 350 legend and all I heard was an audible “CLICK” as the gun didn’t fire and the buck took off. I immediately realized that in the hurry to get out to the blind i never racked a round before handing the gun off to him. I felt absolutely terrible as he did everything right and it was my fault he missed this awesome opportunity.

Fast forward 3 hunts later and I spotted this guy bedded down again at 2pm. I snuck back inside, told Colton and we excitedly snuck back out there.
Once again he stood and looked right at us as we set up the tripod 31yds away. Colton put the cross hairs where they needed to be and dropped the hammer on his FIRST DEER EVER. He may have set the bar pretty darn high for himself but i couldn’t be more proud of him! Talk about a proud dad moment!
