We had gotten home from church at around 11am and shortly after I started getting pictures of hens showing up on my trail cam. I wasn’t going to hunt because I had too much going on that had to get done before work on Monday. I soon changed my mind and thought if I can sneak in on them I’ll wait and sit a bit to see if a gobbler shows up. So I grabbed a mouth call and my shotgun, needless to say I startled the hens and they took off. I figured I’d give it 15 minutes to see if they would maybe come back so I gave a couple soft yelps to see if I could get any gobbles in which I did. About 10 minutes later a group of 6 hens came strolling in with a Tom not too far behind them strutting his stuff. He wouldn’t get any closer than 30 yards and mostly stayed behind a cluster of brush but eventually let his head out just enough to give me a good shot. He had a 9.5 inch beard and 1.25” spurs.
