I took my nephew out to get him his 1st buck, we sat and watched some does and fawns for a while before I saw some movement in the woods to our left. I told Aaron to get ready as an 8 and 4 pointer were coming into the field. The 8 pointer came out and stood broadside for us but we had no shot due to the does directly behind him. We waited for him to give Aaron a shot but something spooked him and he and a few if the does ran off.

We figured that was it for that buck and watched as the 4 pointer walked just past the wood line. We continued watching it for a while before aaron caught a glimpse of antlers in the back of the field. The 8 had worked his way back into the field and was coming towards us.

We watched as it grouped up with a couple does that remained but again it gave us no shot with either another deer or a tree being in the way. Again we watched and waited hoping it would give us an open shot. After a few minutes again something spooked the deer and they ran to the edge of the field to our left. The buck stopped just before the woods and stood broadside but there was a tree in the way for Aaron.

The buck slowly walked into the woods and stood just where we could see him for a few minutes before he started working his way to a feeder about 20 yards to our left. I had Aaron switch seats in the blind with me to see if we could get a shot out the side window. The buck walked into a clearing and stood broadside again. I told Aaron to see if he can get set up for a shot from the side window, but after trying it the window was too high for him to get a good shot.

At this point I thought there was no way this buck would give us another chance so we just sat and watched as it ate. Aaron set the 243 he was using down and was fiddling with something when the buck turned around and again headed for the field ahead of us. I told Aaron to get ready as the buck walked out and stood broadside about 30 yards away. I told him to take the shot when he was ready and he landed a great shot behind the shoulder.
