I was watching two yearling does in a rye field when I noticed that something behind me got their attention. I peaked around the tree from my stand and he was passing 30-40’ from me. I had to let him walk past and waited. He gave me a quartering away shot at 30 yards. He only ran about 50 yards and piled up. He’s the first buck I’ve seen in 9 years. I hunt a spot that’s not very productive but it’s with an elderly friend that enjoys having me over, playing cards at lunch and eating way too much. That means more to me than the harvest opportunity. I was alone so I set my phone in a tree for the picture. 7:25am In opening day in Lapeer county.
