I was sitting in my stand looking at the same old does, spikes and fork horns I’ve been seeing. I heard the sound of steady hooves coming from the thick brush in the swamp. A nice eight point walked directly into my lane and stopped at 20 yards. Still hearing something behind him, I let him pass. The big one was right behind him. He stopped in the same lane, I drew my bow, found my 20 yard pin, and touched the release. I lost sight of him but listened carefully. Over the sound of my heart beating out of my chest I heard the crash. A perfect double lung shot just above the heart, and he was piled up about 35 yards away.
