Hunting with my daughter, Emma, and it was her turn to shoot. Just about quitting time for us that day when I spotted a buck 210 yards out. I rattled him in to around 50 yards but he kept turning around to head back in the direction he came from. Grunted at him a couple of times with a call and he moved parallel to us, grunting back. Came out of the thick stuff at around 40 yards but walked directly towards us and stood looking our way. Ran off another small buck and came in to around 25 yards but still facing us. Stood there staring directly at us for a couple of minutes, flicked his tail and again began walking away from us. I voice-grunted at him and he stopped but then walked a few more yards away. I voice-grunted again stopping him as he was slightly quartering away. Emma, who said her heart was racing a “mile-a-minute” made the perfect shot at a distance of 40 yards. He ran around 75 yards and dropped. I caught the last 3 minutes on video, which is Emma’s 5th buck. Memories like these will keep me smiling until my time here is finished.
