I got settled into my stand around 2:45, overlooking a couple scrapes. By 3:15, the rain was pouring and the wind was ripping when this buck stood up from his bed 54 yards away.
After checking the wind for a few minutes, he headed toward the scrapes. I stopped him at 20 yards and let an arrow fly. He jumped and took a few quick steps, but a grunt slowed him down. He walked another 20 yards and bedded down.
Unsure of my shot, I waited two hours before quietly climbing down and heading in for dinner. After dark, I found him right where he’d bedded.
My biggest buck yet and my second with a bow. A hunt I’ll never forget.
