My son shot his first deer the other night. It was an amazing experience. Around 4:25 we spotted a black cat out along the fence row. As I pointed it out to him, he says “dad aren’t black cats bad luck?” And I told him “for me almost every time I see a cat I see deer!” Which he replied “well maybe its bad luck for the deer!” About 15 minutes later 3 doe came out of that same fence row. He set his eyes on the first ,about 120 yards out. When he shot I watched the doe jump in the air about 5 feet! Then the whole group just looked around. I told him rack another one in. As she finally turned broad. I said easy on pulling the trigger. This time I was sure he hit her good. She maybe made it 50 yards before piling up. Now in my household my boys will not shoot something they can’t clean. So the last 4 years of helping him learn how to field dress a deer paid off! He (9y/o) along with his younger brother who just turned 8 Field dressed her and prepared her for processing, which we all worked together to do. God has blessed us time and time again. And I’m so proud I can be a part of teaching my two boys how to step up on being men and enjoy the many gifts of being sportsman.
