I figured there would be lots of ppl out hunting on Thanksgiving day but the weather was windy & rainy I didn’t see anyone out but me.
As I wasn’t seeing any deer & thinking am I the only dingbat out today this guy came sneaking through & I almost didn’t even see him .
I only had seconds to decide if he was a shooter or not before he would be disappearing into the thicket.
At 70 yds I shot & he jumped then stood there.
I couldn’t believe I missed.
Well I thought so anyhow.
I shot a second time & he bucked then ran out of sight.
I waited a bit & hardly found any blood because of the rain, I immediately thought oh no.
I finally found him & to my surprise I hit him both shots.
Once in the liver & once in the neck.
How he ran off is unbelievable.
After chasing whitetails around for 40+ yrs I have the utmost respect for this incredible animal.
They are simply tuff as nails, they have an unworldly will to survive & the 3rd sense that something just ain’t rite is 2nd to none.
When they live long enough they get so wary & smart continuously outsmarting many hunters.
This chess game is what keeps me chasing them around every year.
Thank you deer gods for letting me harvest another old boy this year.
