I had sat in my treestand the first 3 days of season and did not see many deer but did see a glimpse of a few about 100yards into the woods. So the morning of 10/4 I sat about 50 yards into the woods from my treestand on the ground up against a tree. At about 7:30 about 5 does came out of the neighbor’s woods and worked their way to me followed by a nice little 6pt (bigger than anything I’ve ever gotten at this point). He presented me a 45 yard shot slightly quartered away at about 8:05 .I felt confident with the shot so I took it he ran off and I saw him go down 175 yards away, all the other deer stayed. Pumped I reached down an quietly re-cocked my crossbow and leaned back against the tree. 10 or 15 more doe come filling in not 5 minutes later… I had deer within 25 yards all the way around me I was just waiting to get busted. Then the monster 10 point(and a broke off 11th point) stepped out at 35 yards with a perfect broadside shot. Buck fever kicked in like I was 9 years old on that first hunt again. I pulled up my crossbow up calmed myself and squeezed the trigger… click… nothing happens the reset had not tripped. My heart dropped I slowly pulled the string back again to reset the safety at this point he is staring right at me on a slight angle. I pulled up the crossbow aimed at his chest and let one fly. He piled up about 100 yards away with a double lung shot. I Was super pumped couldn’t have picked a better way to tag out for the year. Good luck to everyone out their with their hunts especially to my fellow branch county hunters, I think this is going to be a good year for everybody.
