EHD took a devastating tole on our farm. When I seen, “wide load” appear on the cams it was a sigh of relief. He was the one I was after.
It was a slow start to the season. With very little deer activity I decided to sit a stand on the farm we call “Halloween”. The wind was perfect for that stand. It had been raining but I knew if I could get in the stand before the rain settled, I would see deer. It was a gorgeous evening.

As soon as I got in the stand I seen a nice 6 point way out of range but it was nice to see him. A slow evening turned into a doe making her way down a trail in the woods about 30 yards from me. She was just meandering through slowly eating. With her behavior being calm I assumed she was alone. Then I heard a grunt. I picked up my grunt tube and gave him a few grunts. He slowly made his way through the brush what seemed like hours. He finally cleared a set of trees into a clear shot, slightly quartering too, 40 yard shot with my .44 mag and dropped him where he stood.
Tagging your target buck on an EHD year… priceless.
