Saw him sneaking through a thicket with his head down at 8:20. Had a short window to decide if he was a shooter and get a shot off before he made it to the neighbors property. Put the scope on him and knew right away I had to take the shot. Picked out an opening ahead of him between a split tree and touched off when he came into view. Ran 40 yards and dropped. Unfortunately, it all happened so fast I neglected to see if he was alone. I never saw the bigger 8 behind him until after I shot. He wheeled around and escaped back through the thicket, and I was unable to get a shot off at him. This guy was the smallest of 4 shooter bucks I saw on opening day. 18.25″ inside spread. Biggest buck to date! Let ’em grow!
