After hunting hard in the youth hunt the past two years, and having several very close calls, Jayden finally connected on a horse-sized doe this year. He and his grandma waited out the early-morning downpour from the safety of Cousin Craig’s house. Jayden was determined to put venison in the freezer after the long drive to Hillsdale, and when the rain tapered to a drizzle, Cousin Britt arrived and the trio headed for a ladder stand in a pine tree overlooking a food plot, hoping that the pine would offer some cover if the skies decided to open up again.
It was already daylight when they arrived at the tree, but they slipped in undetected and settled in with Jayden and Grandma Terrie sitting in the 2-man ladder stand and Cousin Britt tied off in his sling behind them. After an hour’s wait, Jayden spotted a doe as she stepped into the plot and began eating corn at 40 yards. Jayden made a PERFECT shot, hitting her through both shoulders. She ran 20 yards and collapsed. High fives all around, a trip to the processor, and then celebration breakfast at The Finish Line Restaurant in town!!!!!
