Opening day morning, around 10:30, I took the basket 8 (to my left in the pic). He fell, then got up and ran into some tall brush. I knew I had a good shot but wasn’t sure he was down. I gave it about 20 min and went down to check. When I walked up on him, his right antler was gone and had clearly (and sadly) broken off. I noticed there was a little blood at the break, which was weird so I snapped a pic. I looked around but it was snowing heavily and I needed to get back to my blind. That night, around 5:00, a spike and a small buck came in and just hung out around my kill. They would walk away, but not far and would keep coming back. We did this for about 30min. Suddenly, they both turned and stared into the woodsy area behind them. I could hear a lower grunt coming our way. With my gun out the window, I got ready for whatever it was. Out came this wide 6pt (to my right in the pic) heading right to my blind. He began to trot and I put him in my scope. Once he was about 40-50 yards from my blind I grunted but he didn’t hear me, so I grunted louder which stopped him and I shot! Both bucks were down which tagged me out for the most memorable Opening Day I have had or probably will have. It was an awesome day that I will never forget.
