The morning of 11/17, my 11 year old son and I were sitting in my blind enjoying watching a 5pt and doe playing hide and seek around some tall brush out in front of us. Then, this tall, wide buck came out from behind us. I sited him in to make sure he was legal on point restrictions and he was!! At this point my heart starts racing and excitement is mounting. His back is to me as he walks away to the tall brush… I think I’ve lost him. I got my grunt call out and grunted a couple times. He pokes his head out a few times and turns back into the thick stuff. Once again I think he is gone. I get the estrus call out and flip it a couple times. He comes out! Crosses through an opening heading toward more tall brush. I grunt twice to get him to stop; he doesn’t care. So I yell “hey!” He turns and is heading back to the right. I site him in and he turns again back to the left. I grunt again, he stops and boom!! I shoot and he immediately drops! He struggled trying to get back up for about 30 seconds and then finally lays down. His tail flicks a few times and he doesn’t move again. My son and I give high fives and hug. I’m shaking and the excitement is overwhelming. We wait about an hour to walk down; he is about 20 yards out. When we get up to him, I left his head and he has a split brown tine, making him a 9 point. We are overjoyed and hug again! It was such an awesome experience! Not only did I bag my first huge buck (I had previously only shot a 4 point 3 years ago) but my son was there to share it with me. I have Multiple Sclerosis and have difficulty with many things, but my MS did not have that day. Thank you so much for letting me share my story!
