Me and my boyfriend Dan hunted his family property all bow season on edge of a river after seeing countless bucks on the other side that we couldn’t reach to with our bows we decided to set up a blind on a 3 acre parcel for opening day just to see how the land is since no one has been able to access it. (It’s nearly a mile back from the house, with no way to drive a quad or vehicle so it’s a hike) We bought a small rowboat and sunk it in the river to get across, we set up a small tent blind and did not return until opening morning, we had our eyes on many deer and one shooter that stayed in the brush. The next day was bitter cold, we didn’t see a single deer in the morning, around 2:00 some does and small bucks started to move, at 4:00 movement caught our eyes behind us about 20 yards from the blind this 8pt steps out of the brush. He walks right in front of us (Dan started to videotape on his phone) soon as he turned broadside at 40 yards my savage 220 put a slug right in his heart and he dropped right there! So incredibly happy our hard work paid off! He was aged at DNR at 4 1/2. The pictures of him in the boat are priceless and the drag home with him, our backpacks, guns, and buddy heater, for almost a mile is something I’ll never forget! But so worth it!!
