Welp…. My main dude didn’t have to wait the years his sister had to. After his sister shot the buck she did last week, the challenge was on!
A smaller 8 stepped out at 315pm and he’d normally be all over that. In his eyes, if it has bone it’s down. Many of us can relate. I know I didn’t pass on anything that had horns when I was younger. I’m trying to beat that out of him and I think I’m finally getting somewhere.
This small 8 presented him with numerous shots and he kept telling me “Dad, I want to shoot him but I think I need to wait.” I told him that was a good choice. After about 15 minutes that small 8 left and he told me he thinks he made the right decision. Indeed, he did!
This fella stepped out chasing a doe at about 445pm. He was roughly 300 yards out and that’s a stretch for Jordy. I told him we have lots of daylight left and we need to see if the doe will bring him in closer. In a nutshell, after watching him come in and out of the brush for about a half hour, that doe brought him within 150 yards of us.
As I was trying to coach him through his shot, the little shit apparently wasn’t listening to me and shot mid conversation. The rest is history. He dropped where he stood.
Both of my kids have officially shot a bigger buck than I ever have and I couldn’t be more proud of them.
We’re currently in the process of building a new house. What Jordy and his sister don’t know…. This taxidermy bill is taking place of their new bedrooms. And beds. They may be sleeping in their deer blinds for the foreseeable future!
