Me and my boys worked hard all weekend on being cooped up in in a box blind. Saturday morning, Sunday morning and Sunday night for a combined 15 hours. Not easy with 2 tired boys. Hot chocolate in the morning. Jolly ranchers and sunflower seeds for the remaining time. Logan had a severe headache during the Sunday hunt along with crying and being very emotional along with saying he wanted to go back to the truck at 7pm. My wife and I found out that he had a concussion from the Saturday night football game and took a descent helmet to helmet collision. Around 745 he gave up and climbed out of the shooters chair mad at me because we were not leaving. I told my youngest to hop up in the chair and continue on with the hunt. Which he is a licensed Hunter as well. 3 minutes went by and this buck came out within bow range. With this hunt really being for my oldest I kicked my youngest back out from the shooters seat. And told my oldest that’s our Target buck, everything changed in his eyes , he had forgotten about all the tears from the last 45 minutes of anguish. With that buck so close I knew I had a challenge in the blind to guide my little ones not to get busted. The absolute worst happened this buck tortured us especially Logan on watching him for upwards of 7 minutes. His teeth was chattering his leg was dancing. With how his Caldwell magnum fieldpod was set up for the blind the buck hung out in the wrong window. I picked the gun out of the tripod and leaned it on the wood window sill, told Logan to crawl over to me. And what he said was I can’t move. His body was in adrenaline shock. I carefully put the gun back in the tripod and told myself to learn from my mistakes and be patient we still should get a shot. A few minutes later the shot opportunity was available now at about 50 yards, I clicked the safety off for him (Ruger American safety is pretty stuff for a youngster). He pulled himself together and with all of the mental preparation that him and I have went over several times he fired and I seen the entrance and knew he put a great shot on that buck. I heard the deer go rest and what happened afterwards I filmed a priceless 2.5 minute video of the Aftershock of that moment. As you read this story of rookie Hunter that did a great job of remaining strong and making a ethical shot placement on this great deer that had him with a extreme case of buck fever. I hope you all that took the time to read this made you feel like you were there with us. Actual a 10 point I counted a point that was a 1/4″ long so he could top my 10 point, so we called it a 11 points-Joshua Jewell-
