I rushed home from work, got suited up and headed out to my tree stand. I was sitting by about 4:10 PM. As I was sitting there looking into the cornfield I was thinking that this kind of sucks because the sun was blaring straight into my eyes, and I couldn’t really see. At this point I was using my ears primarily instead of my eyes. At 4:40 PM, I hear something coming through the corn heading my way. This sounds much bigger than the birds that were tricking me for the half an hour prior. As soon as I get my eyes on what I’m hearing, I see that it’s a dough and right as I saw her I heard grunting following behind her. I get my bow situated in position and she goes running past me with the buck so I call out meh. I don’t know if she heard me or winded me or what but she changed positions and started heading back the way that she came. This was good for me because they were both passed me by now and I called out meh again, but louder this time and I was able to stop the buck. He was directly in front of me about 30 yards and I’m now looking through my scope, trying to find him, but it was kind of hard deciphering him through the corn at first. It seemed like forever, but it was probably only two seconds and then I found him and took my shot as quick as possible before he started moving again. It was hard to see his body through the corn so I aimed as best as I could. Luckily, there was only one row of tall corn in front of him, and the rest was all short, so my arrow only had to go through one row of corn stocks. I watched him runoff and it looked like he fell about 50 yards out, but I wasn’t positive. So with myself being impatient, I only waited about 10 minutes before I got down to just check and see if I could find my arrow. When I got down, I found tons of blood and it took me about 10 minutes before I found my arrow, but I finally found it and with all of the blood that I saw, and knowing that my arrow was a pass-through, I couldn’t help myself, but to go looking. Sure enough pretty much straight down the cornrow about 50 yards there he laid. I was lucky because I hit him through the jugular and clipped the front of the lung. Regardless, it was a quick successful kill, and it is my personal best so far so I couldn’t be happier!
