Made up my mind early I was sitting in the middle of the woods since all the crops were off from our section already and figured with the heat they would stay innthe woods and boy was I ever right for once. Walked our ditch back to my stand and spooked a few does laying under my stand. Didn’t take long to start seeing deer and when I did it never stopped. Most were 50-60yd for 2 hours straight. Probably saw 15 different bucks. Saw this guy acrossed the ditch on the neighbors and then he surprised me the first time as I was trying to put a jollywrancher in my mouth and he came up the ditch. Tried getting a shot off then but he was behind some brush and moving does and other little bucks around. He then went back for 20 or so minutes and then I had 6 bucks moving does at 40yd from me and then came directly under my stand. Had 2 other bucks 30yd in a clear cut and then this guy came up out of the ditch to my right again. Put the range finder on the 2 other little bucks standing there as I thought he would follow them. He followed a doe slightly to my left so I ranged her instead and he walked the same path and the rest was history. I had 8 bucks all within 50yd when I shot him. Biggest buck to date and one of if not the best hunts I’ve ever had. Deer even stayed around after I shot, had another 10 point at 30yd but I only get one buck tag a year plus he was too young.
