Little brother went out last weekend and ended up shooting a real nice 9 point with his bow! So he let me hunt his stand opening morning of gun. Called in and missed a bigger buck opening morning with my shotgun. Super bummed since we don’t ever see bucks when we go out much less anything bigger than a little basket rack! Went out that evening with the 350 instead and this 10 point came from the same direction the big buck came, grunting with his nose to the ground! Never got a shot until 30 yards when he turned broadside and smoked him! Went out the next morning just to sit and enjoy the nice November morning with my remaining buck tag in my pocket. Once the sun came up I happen to see whitetails running through the thicket about a 60 yards out but I couldn’t tell what they were. Picked up the grunt tube and wheezed and grunted a couple times. Pretty soon the tracks sounded more distant and I thought maybe they just ran off. About a minute passed and I heard scraping followed by some grunting and this 8 point come walking the exact same trail the bigger buck did! He came straight at me until 15 yards before he caught wind of me looking directly at me but he had just turned broadside! By that time it was too late and I dropped him too! First time I’ve ever tagged out and I couldn’t be happier with deer season 2023! *For anyone concerned about not seeing the tags on the antlers of the bucks it’s because we put them on the rear leg. It’s easier for your taxidermist to remove than when they stick to the antlers and rip.*
