It was the morning of November 5th, and it was raining. I was hunting an area of state land where I've had success in the past, but nothing even close to what I was about to encounter.
Deer sign had been pretty scarce this year, so my confidence wasn't exactly high. Between the lack of activity and the rain, there were plenty of reasons to question whether it was going to be a good morning. I had waited several days for the wind to finally shift in the right direction before I could hunt this treestand.
Then, out of nowhere, he appeared.
At just 18 yards, this buck stepped out, and I honestly couldn't believe what I was looking at. His rack was massive, golden-colored antlers that immediately caught my attention. I've hunted state land for years and have had some success, but I had never seen a buck like this while hunting public ground.
