It was a beautiful day, 9mph winds coming from the west. Before I sat my stand I freshened up my 2 mock scrapes I had. I ended up getting in my stand around 3:30pm. I got all settled in, a few mins later i did a rutting buck grunts, nothing…started dozing off. A few mins later I got a text from the neighbors leasing the other property. When I got done responding to the text I did my rutting buck call 5 times. Recieved another text, responded, then caught movement out in front of me. All I could see was rack coming at me at 30 yards and closing, I still had my phone and glove in my hand. I struggled putting my phone away, my crossbow was on my feet. Grabbed my crossbow, pulled up and waited he was at 16 yards acted like he owned the place, he walked by my mock scrape. As I waited I shook like a leaf, finally made it to my shooting lane, he just had to turn I thought. As soon as I thought that he looked right at me through the scope, I was busted…so let it fly. Saw it hit him through the scope luminock lit, thought I made bad shot. He took off running down the trail. Let him lay, my brother came to help track him, he walked up the trail and found him dead 50 yards from his other stand. I didn’t believe him until I followed blood trail up to the buck and my brother. Biggest buck to date…ended up getting lucky accidental neck shot which nicked throat, hit both lungs, and heart. He ran maybe 70 yards
