I sat in my stand friday night the wind was blowing about 10 15 mph out of the north west, it was pretty cold maybe mid forties. I sat motionless as the wind swayed the tree limbs all around me. Like every hunt I start to get excited thinking about what I might get to see tonight, I also think about the deer I have seen the previous years. Especially one deer in particular, the one deer Ive had on trail cameras the past two years. He was always really cemetrical five points on each side with crab claws at the end. Ive only had one encounter before with this particular deer, I missed him last year during the late bow season. I haven’t had a trail camera picture of him it all this year, so in my mind I figured one of the neighbors must have got him. I sat until I could see the sun was starting to fade and get tucked away behind the trees to my west. I stood up to keep my body flat against the big red oak tree to reduce getting spotting by anything that may come in. It was still somewhat early to see deer about 6:45 when I heard at twing break off to my west. I turned and looked to see two bucks making there way to me. The first one was a young basket six point, The one behind him was the phantom ten point I’ve been after the past two years. Rather then coming down the nice trail I’ve made for deer to follow to my bait pile and trail camera. This big buck goes through the tall grass and thorn bush to get to my bait pile. While doing the he puts he vitals perfectly in front of another oak tree completely blocking a shot I could make at fifteen yards. My heart was racing as I reached for my recurve slowly, I tried to breathe as calmly as possible as the string and arrow hit my finger tips. The buck continued feeding for about ten minutes. Then he backed up and turned away from me covering himself in thorn bush and tall grass. He started making his was north through the tall grass where I had no shot. His head was down thrashing the grass away with his antlers as he headed north to on opening in could make a shot at about twenty six yards. I turned my body and focused on that opening as he stepped in to it. I focused on the vitals as I let the string slip from my fingers, the arrow flew through the air and hit him perfectly behind the shoulder. I watched him run off then heard a loud crash off the north east of me. He only ran sixty yards before crashing, I hit both lungs and cut all the arteries above the heart.
